Oral Arts Programs for Children in Grades 3 and Up
Tales with a Twist
Children create and tell original fairy tales in this innovative program that includes a 30 minute performance plus 60 minute classroom workshop. The children will hear an original fairy tale, and participate in activities that focus on story structure, elements and story boards. Following the presentation children work together in small groups to create their own original fairy tale using specially designed story cards. The workshop concludes with the children telling their stories to the class. Following the workshop, each child writes and illustrates his/her own version of the group story. In Their Own Words
The purpose of this 6 week program is to help students choose, learn and re-tell folk tales, fairy tales, myths and legends selected from culturally diverse traditions. The primary goal of the project is to provide children with safe and positive experiences as both tellers and listeners in which techniques of effective oral communication are modeled and practiced. It is a process-oriented experience which emphasizes self-discovery and builds self-esteem.Storytelling for Adults
Teacher Tell Us A Story: Storytelling in the Classroom
Discover the joy of storytelling! Storytelling encourages communication and literacy. It teaches children to listen, imagine and visualize. Teachers are shown techniques for acquiring, learning and presenting stories in this interactive workshop. Everyone will leave with a story to tell to their students and a packet of handouts which includes tips, a bibliography of resources, and ideas for implementing storytelling activities with children.Once Upon A Time When I Was Little: Family Storytelling
Children love to hear stories about their parent’s (or grandparent’s) experiences as children. They also love to hear about themselves, especially about their births and names. Family stories are especially meaningful because they help children process and understand their own experiences. Workshop participants will learn storytelling tips and techniques as they share their own personal and family stories.
